BALDNESS
Description
Baldness refers to the falling of hair or absence of hair on the heads. It is the most common disorder among men. Hair is found on each and every part of the body except the hands, palms and soles of the feet. Hair is formed in minute pockets in the skin called follicles. An up growth at the base of follicle produces hair when a special group of cells turn amino acids into keratin, a type of protein, of which hair is made. The rate of production of these building blocks determines hair growth. There is a balance in the hair growth and falling of hair. Any problem in the body system can disturb this balance causing more of hair loss and finally baldness.
Root Causes
  • Hormonal changes (for example, thyroid disease, childbirth, or use of the birth control pill)
  • A serious illness (like a tumor of the ovary or adrenal glands) or fever
  • Medication such as cancer chemotherapy
  • Excessive shampooing and blow-drying
  • Emotional or physical stress
  • Nervous habits such as continual hair pulling or scalp rubbing
  • Burns or radiation therapy
  • Alopecia areata -- bald patches that develop on the scalp, beard, and, possibly, eyebrows. Eyelashes may fall out as well. This is thought to be an immune disorder.
  • Tinea capitis (ringworm of the scalp).
  • Age factor.
  • Genetic factor.
  • Hormonal changes.
  • Stress.
  • Poor circulation of blood to the scalp.
  • Excess dandruff.
Symptoms
  • Hair falls on clothes after combing.
  • Gradual appearance of bald patches.
  • Receding hairline.
Home Remedies
  • One of the best home remedies for treating hair loss is to massage your scalp with fingers gently. It will also aid in increasing blood circulation and lend glow to your hair.
  • Amla oil serves as an excellent tonic for hair conditioning. To prepare amla oil, put some dry pieces of amla in coconut oil and bring to a boil. Apply this oil on the scalp and see the wonderful results.
  • For nourishing your hair, apply coconut milk all over your scalp and massage it into the hair roots.
Precautions
  • Make a drink by blending bananas, honey, yogurt and low fat milk. This drink is rich in biotin and will help your hair to have strong roots.
  • Ensure your diet is rich in Vitamin B6, zinc and saw palmetto. Use supplements if you cannot get enough from natural food sources.
  • Bend your head while you are shampooing and massage your scalp. This will increase blood circulation to the scalp.
  • Get rid of stress and this is most dangerous for your lovely hair.
  • Get sufficient sleep. Like a healthy body, healthy hair too needs a good night's sleep.
