Description

Influenza, also known as flu, is the clinical condition that the results from infection with influenza viruses. The main effects of the influenza viruses are on the upper respiratory tract, the nose and throat, which possible spread and involvement of the lungs and bronchi. The disease is highly contagious and it has potential to cause a widespread epidemic, affecting the sizeable portion of a population of anytime.

Root Causes
Influenza is a viral disease. It generally affects those with a toxic and run down condition. Such a state is brought about by dietetic errors and faulty style of living such as worry, overwork, lack of proper exercise, living in stuffy rooms and keeping late hours. No disease germs can find lodgement and become active in the system of a person who is perfectly healthy in the true sense of the term. Influenza is passed on with ease from the affected person to many others who are also in equally low vital state.
Symptoms
  • Fever over 101 F. Children with the flu tend to have higher fevers than adults have — often as high as 103 to 105 F.
  • Chills and sweats.
  • Headache.
  • Dry cough.
  • Muscular aches and pains, especially in your back, arms and legs.
  • Fatigue and weakness.
  • Nasal congestion.
  • Loss of appetite.
  • Diarrhea and vomiting. Although children may have these signs, diarrhea and vomiting are rare in adults.
Home Remedies
  • Garlic is extremely useful in treating influenza, owing to its antiseptic properties. The patient should consume as much garlic as he can.
  • Turmeric is of great value in treating the problem of influenza. In 1 cup of warm milk, add 1 teaspoons of turmeric powder. Drink it three times in a day.
  • Take half teaspoon of long pepper powder and add two teaspoons of honey and one teaspoons of ginger juice in it. This mixture has to be taken three times in a day.
  • Onion juice has proved beneficial in the treatment of influenza. Take an equal quantity of onion juice and honey. Drink 3-4 teaspoons of this mixture.
  • Grapefruit juice is effective in toning your body.
Precautions
  • Wash your hands: Thorough and frequent hand washing is the best way to prevent many common infections. Use an alcohol based hand gel containing at least 6 percent alcohol. Hand gels are easy to use and may be even more effective in killing germs than soap and water are.
  • Eat right, sleep night: A balance diet that emphasizes fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains and small amount of lean protein works best for the most people. On the other hand, the amount of sleep needed for a healthy immune system varies from person to person. In general, adults seem to do best on seven to eight hours of sleep a night. Older children and teens need more rest- between 9-10 hours every night.
  • Exercise regularly: Regular cardiovascular exercise, walking, biking, aerobics – boosts your immune system. Exercise won’t prevent every infection, but if you do come down with the flu, you may have less severe symptoms and recover more quickly than do people who aren’t as fit.
  • Avoid spicesm condiments, alcohol etc: He should avoid spices and condiments, alcohol, tobacco, strong tea and coffee, highly seasoned meats, over-boiled milk, pulses, potatoes, rice, cheese, and refilled, processed, stale, and tinned foods.
