sinusitis

Description

Sinusitis refers to an inflammation of the mucous membrane lining the paranasal sinuses. It often follows a common cold, influenza, and other general infections. Infecting germs sometimes find their way into sinuses or chambers on either side of the nasal passage, leading to sinus trouble.

Root Causes
  • Sinusitis results from the inflammation of the sinus passages and over secretion of mucus by the membranes lining the nose and throat.
  • Smoking.
  • Lifestyle.
Symptoms
  • Constant sneezing.
  • Running nose.
  • Headache.
  • Mild fever.
  • Loss of appetite.
  • Difficulty in breathing.
Home Remedies
  • Mango: Mango serves as an effective home remedy for preventing the frequent attacks of sinus, as it is packed with loads of vitamin A.
  • Pungent foods: Another beneficial remedy consists of consuming pungent foods like onion and garlic, as a part of your daily meals.
  • Fenugreek: Fenugreek leaves are considered valuable in curing sinusitis. In 250 ml water, boil 1 tsp of Fenugreek seeds and reduce it to half. This will help you to perspire, dispel toxicity and reduce the fever period.
  • Cumin seeds: Tie a teaspoon of black cumin seeds in a thin cotton cloth and inhale.
Precautions
  • Wash your hands often: Soap and water can help you avoid the upper respiratory infections that can lead to sinusitis. You may want to ask your doctor about a yearly flu vaccine as well.
  • Avoid irritants: Avoid cigarette, cigar and pipe smoke. These and other air pollutants can cause your sinus membranes to swell.
  • Use a humidifier: Adding moisture to dry indoor air can help prevent sinusitis — but don't overdo it. High indoor humidity can promote mold and dust mite growth. Be sure the humidifier is clean and free of mold.
