Description

In the modern times, stress has become the most common problem that is affecting almost every person. The credit for the growing stress goes to hectic work schedules, pressure at workplace, relationship demands and other physical and mental health problems. Stress is hazardous for the body and mind. It can take an ugly shape in future, giving rise to disorders like heart disease, diabetes, headache, and peptic ulcer.

Root Causes
  • External stress factors like loud noises, drugs, etc: Stress may be caused by a variety of factors both outside the body and within. External factors include loud noises, blinding light, extreme heat or cold, X-rays and other forms of radiation, drugs, chemicals, bacterial and various toxic substance, pain, and inadequate nutrition
  • Internal stress factors like envy, jealousy, etc: The factors from within the body include hate, envy, fear, or jealousy.
Symptoms
  • Muscles become tense.
  • Blood pressure rises.
  • Breathing becomes faster.
  • Digestion slows down.
  • Heart pumps blood at a faster rate.
  • Lack of sound sleep.
  • Frustration.
  • Consumption of alcohol in excessive quantity.
Home Remedies
  • Yogurt: Yogurt is the best food remedy for stress. It is rich in vitamin A, B complex and vitamin D.
  • Alfalfa and sunflower seeds: Alfalfa and sunflower seeds are also useful in the treatment of stress.
  • Sprouts: Sprouts are effective as they rich in calcium.
  • Holy basil: The leaves of holy basil known as tulsi are highly beneficial in the treatment of stress. Chew 12 leaves of basil twice a day morning and evening for preventing stress. Tulsi is known as adaptogen or antistress agents.
  • Using various ayurvedic herbs like brahmi, ashwagandha are also highly beneficial in the treatment of stress.
  • Hot water bath: Hot water bath is one of the beneficial water treatments in providing relief from stress as it relaxes the whole body.
  • Brisk walk: Brisk walk for at least 45 minutes daily is also effective in dealing with the stress.
  • Smoking and ajwain: Smoking or sniffing ajwain seeds frequently also provides relief from stress.
  • Warm milk: Warm milk with honey with little amount cinnamon is the best drink to be taken that helps in relaxation.
  • Honey: Take one spoonful of honey in hot water to get immediate relief from stress.
Precautions

Regular physical exercise plays an important role in the fight against stress. It not only keeps the body physically and mentally fit, but also provides recreation and mental relaxation. Recreation and rest are also important. One should set a definite time for recreational activities, and should take holidays at regular intervals. Above all, simplify the style of living to eliminate the unnecessary stress.
